HCD combines are range of approaches and practices including: contextual and ethnographic research, market analysis and insights, data-driven business science, service design (SERVD), experience design (UX) and interaction design (UI) product design (PD).
At the core of the design process is design thinking (DT), a creative approach to problem solving and creativity that starts with the people (users) and culminates with innovative solutions that fulfil people’s needs and desires. It is a framework in which the needs, wants, and limitations of the end user of a product, service or process are given extensive attention at each stage of the design process from initial contextual and ethnographic research to idea generation and concept development. At each stage the user is asked to participate to test, validate and assess the design thinking.
